I haven't updated this journal in forever and a day! So here's some of what I've been up to.

DALE, NORWAY

Last year there was giant telemegaphone set up in the mountains of Dale in Norway (check it out here => [link] and here => [link]). What is a telemegaphone you ask? It's a megaphone you can call ^_^ When you dial the telemegaphone’s phone number your voice is projected out across the fjord, the valley and the village of Dale. I couldn't think of anything to say so I flipped through my little notebook filled with some of my favorite poems and I read John Donne's "Meditation 17"
from Devotions upon Emergent Occasions (aka 'For Whom the Bell Tolls';):

"No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were. Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee..."

MY OWN ROOM

My younger sister has left for college which means I now have my own room. This new living arrangement has it's pros and cons, I can listen to whatever music I want at full blast and I don't have to listen to anyone talking in their sleep, downside, I have no one to throw things at or discuss my Joycean epiphanies (and other secrets of the universe) with in the middle of the night.

MOVIES

Over the past seven months I have watched a grand total of 239 movies. Here are a few of the notables ^_^

Federico Fellini's "I Vitelloni": an excellent film that I highly recommend, this film was also very good in helping me remember all of the Italian I was beginning to forget ^_^

"On the Waterfront": great film by Elia Kazan with a very thought provoking story especially when one considers the time period and the lives of some of the people involved with this films making. Marlon Brando's amazing performance sadly makes it difficult to realize how great Rod Steiger's performance is in this film.

"Seventh Seal": stunning film by Ingmar Bergman. Definitely not for everyone though.

"Mr. Hulot's Holiday", "Playtime", "Mon Oncle", and "Jour de Fete": I'm so glad I discovered the comic genius of Jacques Tati. He was like Chaplin, Keaton, and Lloyd all rolled into one. If you are NOT a film nut like I am I recommend "Mon Oncle" as it moves along faster then the rest of the films mentioned

"Kwaidan": a great Japanese film made up of four vignettes about ghosts and spirits based on the stories of Lafcadio Hearn. The cinematography is absolutely stunning.

"Ben-Hur": I've actually seen this about a million times but this time around I saw it in a movie theater on a big screen. If you ever get the chance to see "Ben-Hur" in a theater you'd better go and see it, it's a long film but it's totally worth it especially when it comes to the chariot race. Before the film was played some lady gave a small presentation about the film and she erroneously stated that the chariot crash where the chariot jumps up over a smashed up chariot and Ben-Hur is chucked out of the chariot and is forced to climb in was purely accidental and that he ended up with a broken leg after that stunt. I wanted to yell BULL at the top of my lungs! The jumping over the chariot was totally planned what was accidental was the stuntman Joe Canutt (not Charleton Heston) flying out of the chariot (he landed on the wooden beam connecting the chariot to the horses and managed to climb back in) and the only injury sustained was a cut on the chin. I of course have extremely credible sources which include Charleton Heston himself and I have also seen the old version of Ben-Hur with a strikingly similar chariot race >_> Lol can you tell ignorance gets me riled up?! :giggle:

"The Razor's Edge": I got to see this film at Graumann's Egyptian Theater in Hollywood :D This film was being screened to commemorate the 50th anniversary of actor Tyrone Power's death at the young age of 44. Before the film was screened Power's three children talked about their father and several actresses that had worked with him spoke about him as well. My mom went with me and we both had a blast.

ACTORS

I mourned the deaths of Paul Newman, Van Johnson, and Ricardo Montalban (among many others => [link] ) :(

UTAH

I went up to Utah twice, once in October and once in January. In October I was there for only four day's, I flew there and back and stayed with my sister in her dorm. In January I stayed for six days (my dad and I drove up) and I stayed at my cousin's house for two nights and spent the rest of my time with my sister. Over the weekend we went up to Park City for the Sundance Film Festival but since we were too poor to afford tickets to see anything we wandered around Park City and had bunches of fun ^_^

CHICAGO

My youngest brother and I are trying to convince our parents to let us go to Chicago. Why do we want to go to Chicago? To eat hot dogs of course!

THE END :D

Well I stumbled across an awesome photograph by this deviant => =winesoakedroses and was amazed that even though there were a couple hundred views he had only 7 :+fav:s! Here is the photograph in question

don't forget to :+fav: it and comment!!!!!!

The first 10 people who comment in this journal will be featured.

I'll pick the three deviations of yours I like most and post them in my journal for everyone to see, and I'll say what I like about your art.

But there is a catch. If you're featured you're tagged and have to do this in your journal too!

=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-
It may take me a while to get the deviations and comments up because school is keeping me busy so bear with me ^_^

Hmmm what to say about myself... First and foremost I am a film addict (I usually HAVE to watch at least one new movie a day or I start to freak out, I'm very O.C.D. about this :giggle:). I am a college student and because of my previous statement you would be correct in assuming that I am a film student :D and I hope to be a screenwriter and film historian.

And now I suppose I should talk about my artwork etc. I'm an amateur photographer and once in a while I am blessed with some pretty nice photographs but these are few and far between ^_^ I have also been drawing since I could hold a crayon in my hand but the fact that I've been drawing that long doesn't make me anything to brag about :giggle: by this I mean that I don't draw stick figures and you can usually figure out what I've drawn but that's about it when it comes to my drawing 'talents' :lmao:
